讨论How many和How much离不开可数名词与不可数名词的概念。可数名词指可以数得出来的名词，桌子、椅子、人员、树木都是可数名词；而不可数名词指数不出来的动词，如空气、感情、水。How many一般与复数的可数名词连用，询问人或物的数量；How much询问不可数名词的数量。
（1）How many询问人或物的数量。
How many books did you sell? 你卖了多少本书？
How many people came to the meeting? 有多少人来参加了会议？
How many children do you have? 你有几个孩子？
How many stamps have you collected? 你收集了多少邮票？
注意：提问数字运算的结果时，我们要用How much，而不能用How many。
-How much is three plus one? 三加一等于多少？
-It's four. 等于四。
（2）How much询问不可数名词的数量、物品的价格或事件进展的程度。
How much milk is there in the glass? 玻璃杯里有多少牛奶？
How much sugar do you want in your tea? 你的茶里要放多少糖？
How much rent do you pay every month? 你每月付多少房租？
How much does she love her husband? 她有多爱她的丈夫？
注意：How much time与How many times不同，分别询问时间和次数。
How much time have you spent there? 你在那里待了多久?
How many times have you been there? 你去那里多少次了？
